Do you dream of waking up every morning with full, glamorous lashes? Lash extensions are the answer! We want to make sure that your lashes look good AND feel good. That’s why it is vital to use the proper weight and length extensions to protect the natural lashes from damage. The key to great lash extensions is a trained lash artist.
Here is everything you need to know!
MEET OUR LASH EXPERT, TARA:
Tara has a passion for esthetics and lashes! She graduated from John Jay and has over 7 years of experience as an esthetician. After joining the Earthsavers team 4 years ago she has continued to perfect her craft. She received her lash certification at The Lashe in Chicago in July 2015. Tara’s goal? “To create a natural set of lashes that brighten and open the eyes while maintaining the health and integrity of the natural lash.”
What makes us different? It’s all about the artistry. Lashes are not one size fits all, each application is customized in order to enhance your natural features and eye shape. During the service single lash fibers are glued to the base of each individual natural lash. You can choose between synthetic and mink lashes. Synthetic lashes have a glossy black appearance and are uniform in length, ideal for a “mascara-look”. Mink lashes are tapered and wispy giving a more natural look. A full set of lashes take about 2-2.5 hours to apply and refills are needed every 2-3 weeks.
MAKE THEM LAST
Home care is essential for maintaining the health of your natural lash and the longevity of your lash extensions! For the first 24 hours make sure to avoid excessive heat and don’t wet your lashes. After that you can resume your normal lifestyle, but it’s best to stay out of the sauna and keep oil-based products away from your extensions! Cleanse your lashes daily with and oil free cleanser. We recommend The Lashe Oil Free cleanser, which is fortified with biotin, peptides, and vitamin B5 to nourish your skin and lashes.

At the recent 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, there was significant interest in the round, bruise-like discolorations on the body of Michael Phelps and other athletes. These marks, in addition to unparalleled detoxification and circulation, are a result of an ancient form of Chinese medicine, cupping therapy. This myofascial tissue massage promotes healing and provides relief from inflammation, strengthens the immune system and helps reduce cellulite. Cupping therapy has been steadily gaining in popularity as a method to reduce pain and allow more effective deep tissue work while promoting blood flow and overall relaxation.
The History of Cupping Therapy
You may not have heard about cupping therapy until recently, but it has in fact been around for thousands of years. The modern iteration of cupping theory is generally considered to have originated in China, where its use was first recorded between 281 – 341 A.D.1 But there are mentions of it in the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient medical “book” written in 1550 B.C. There are also records that indicate various forms of cupping therapy were used by ancient Greeks to treat various ailments and maladies.
How Does It Work?
Cupping uses vacuum suction to pull the skin, tissues and muscle below the cup up, improving circulation, relieving pain and pulling toxins out of the body. Traditional cupping involved heating the cup by burning something in it, such as herbs, paper or cotton soaked in alcohol, which heats the cup. Once the material began to smolder the cupping practitioner would then flip the cup and strategically place it on the patient’s body.
Once the air inside the heated cup began to cool it would create a vacuum within the cup, which has the effect of pulling the skin and underlying tissues and muscle slightly up into the cup. This causes the blood vessels in the treated area to expand and some of the capillaries to burst, which reddens the skin.
Most modern cupping practitioners don’t use actual fire to heat the cups anymore, rather they use special machines to create a vacuum in the cup after it has been properly positioned on the patient’s skin.
These cups are generally left in place for approximately three minutes per session. Cup placement is decided by the therapist and the client’s ailments. Anywhere from three to sixteen cups may be used during the treatment.
What Is Cupping Used to Treat?
Cupping advocates will cite a number of disorders and ailments for which cupping may be beneficial. Some of these issues include:
- Relieves inflammation
- Breaks up and releases congestion
- Stretches muscles and connective tissue for mobility
- Pulls blood supply to the skin
- Helps reduce cellulite
- Helps with muscle and joint pain, stiffness and arthritis
- Strengthens the immune system
- Therapeutic for depression, anxiety, fever and stress
- Balances body’s pH, affecting overall health
- Stimulates the nervous system for faster recovery from pain and disease
- Allows more effective deep tissue work

Massages not only help relieve you of your everyday worries and stresses but provide several physical health benefits as well. Different types of massages yield their own specific benefits that help with a variety of issues including:
- Digestive disorders
- Insomnia related to stress
- Myofascial pain syndrome
- Soft tissue strains or injuries
- Sports injuries
- Temporomandibular joint pain
At Earthsavers, we employ several types of massages with different methods of targeting muscles and ligaments within the body.
The classic massage, commonly known as a Swedish massage, concentrates on the entire body, spurring positive effects both psychologically and physiologically. This full-body massage can be customized to your preferred pressure, from light to heavy, using five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage the body. Relaxation, stress relief, increased circulation and flexibility are common benefits of the Swedish massage.
Experts estimate that 80 percent to 90 percent of disease is stress-related. Some medical practitioners state that full-body massages can raise your endorphin levels, which in turn reduce not only emotional stress levels but physiological stresses on the body. Heightened endorphin levels positively affect your brain, alleviating stress and helping you sleep better at night. A better night’s rest is scientifically proven to boost your immune system which keeps you healthier and more resistant to common diseases and illnesses.
Deep Tissue Massages
Deep tissue massages target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue within your body to relieve severe tension. Deep tissue massages are perfect for athletes involved in heavy physical activity where repetitive motions can create consistent pain. Like a Swedish massage, deep tissue massages stimulate blood flow in your muscles, releasing beneficial hormones and chemicals in your body like endorphins, serotonin, and oxytocin.
Relieving tension in various parts of your body can alleviate chronic problems such as back pain. People who get deep tissue massages often experience:
- Lower blood pressure
- Reduced stress, muscle tension and anxiety
- Alleviated complications from scar tissue
- Reduced symptoms of arthritis
- Improved athletic performance
Hot Stone Massages
Hot stone massages may sound dangerous, but if administered by a professional massage therapist you can experience several benefits from the practice. Sanitized, smooth stones are heated in water to a temperature between 120 – 150 degrees and are strategically placed at specific points on your back to target particular problem areas.
With hot stones, no amount of pressure is needed to stimulate the muscles as heat from the stones does all the work, penetrating deep within the skin to underlying muscles and ligaments. Combining healthy massage oils with hot stone massages can maximize the benefits hot stone massages yield as soothing heat opens the pores within your skin, allowing you to absorb cleansing oils that will purge and cleanse your skin of toxins.
Like other massages, hot stone massages yield several psychological and physiological benefits including:
- Stress reduction
- Relaxed muscles
- Pain relief
- Increased blood flow circulation
- Release of bodily toxins
Are Massages Always Beneficial?
Experts agree that most types of massages have beneficial effects on you, your body and your quality of life. However, they caution that you only receive massages from licensed massage therapists. Receiving massages, such as hot stone massages, from unlicensed, unexperienced massage practitioners can result in severe injuries or exacerbate existing issues. It’s best to let licensed therapists handle your care as they know what parts of the body to target during a session to ensure you receive the best results with safety and care in mind.
While massages typically alleviate bodily issues, they can also exacerbate other issues of the body, damaging your health. Don’t get a massage if you have, or suffer from, the following conditions:
- Bleeding disorders or take blood-thinning medication
- Burns or healing wounds
- Deep vein thrombosis
- Severe osteoporosis
- Severe thrombocytopenia
However, professionals agree that massage, no matter which one you choose to receive, offer several physiological and psychological benefits when administered by licensed massage specialists. Contact Earthsavers today to schedule an appointment!
Alec Gilchrist was born and raised in New Orleans. He joined the Earthsavers team this year bringing with him a vast knowledge of Thai massage techniques. After attending the Carolina Center for Massage and Natural Health, he studied at Thai Institute in Arlington, VA to perfect his craft. Alec is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his passion to our community. He looks forward to helping people welcome Thai massage and its benefits into their lives.
“My dedication to the study of Traditional Thai medicine has led me to a highly personalized scope of work encompassing a range of techniques that are taught in different schools of Thai Massage, as well as a working knowledge of western modalities and theories. I embrace the idea that that mastery is achieved by dedication, and this is why I prefer Thai Bodywork. I believe that Thai work can truly help to bring awareness to clients about their bodies and breath, enriching their lives, and fostering whole health.”
ALL ABOUT THAI
Traditional Thai massage is done on a padded mat on the floor. No oil is applied, and you are fully dressed. During the massage the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. The body is aligned, energy blockages are cleared and tensions are relieved. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental wellbeing. Sessions include breath work and breath meditation techniques to help the client relax more fully into the work.
Swe-Thai, which Alec also specializes in, uses the gentle rocking, light stretching and core abdominal work of Thai, mixed with familiar techniques of Swedish massage. The session is a gentle and relaxing, yet deeply effective. Swe-Thai is a great bridge between those wanting the Thai approach with the familiar setting of the massage table and Swedish strokes.
Avoid heavy meals, caffeine, and drastic temperature changes for at least 2 hours after the session. After a period of rest end your day with a warm bath to further relaxation. Drink plenty of water and snack on fruit to assist the body’s detoxification process.
