After joining the Earthsavers team 4 years ago she has continued to perfect her craft. She received her lash certification at The Lashe in Chicago in July 2015. Tara’s goal? “To create a natural set of lashes that brighten and open the eyes while maintaining the health and integrity of the natural lash.”

OUR LASHES
What makes us different? It’s all about the artistry. Lashes are not one size fits all, each application is customized in order to enhance your natural features and eye shape. During the service single lash fibers are glued to the base of each individual natural lash. You can choose between synthetic and mink lashes. Synthetic lashes have a glossy black appearance and are uniform in length, ideal for a “mascara-look”. Mink lashes are tapered and wispy giving a more natural look. A full set of lashes take about 2-2.5 hours to apply and refills are needed every 2-3 weeks.

MAKE THEM LAST
Home care is essential for maintaining the health of your natural lash and the longevity of your lash extensions! For the first 24 hours make sure to avoid excessive heat and don’t wet your lashes. After that you can resume your normal lifestyle, but it’s best to stay out of the sauna and keep oil-based products away from your extensions! Cleanse your lashes daily with and oil free cleanser. We recommend The Lashe Oil Free cleanser, which is fortified with biotin, peptides, and vitamin B5 to nourish your skin and lashes.

What Is Cupping Therapy and How Does it Work?

 

At the recent 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, there was significant interest in the round, bruise-like discolorations on the body of Michael Phelps and other athletes. These marks, in addition to unparalleled detoxification and circulation, are a result of an ancient form of Chinese medicine, cupping therapy. This myofascial tissue massage promotes healing and provides relief from inflammation, strengthens the immune system and helps reduce cellulite. Cupping therapy has been steadily gaining in popularity as a method to reduce pain and allow more effective deep tissue work while promoting blood flow and overall relaxation.

The History of Cupping Therapy

You may not have heard about cupping therapy until recently, but it has in fact been around for thousands of years. The modern iteration of cupping theory is generally considered to have originated in China, where its use was first recorded between 281 – 341 A.D.1 But there are mentions of it in the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient medical “book” written in 1550 B.C. There are also records that indicate various forms of cupping therapy were used by ancient Greeks to treat various ailments and maladies.

How Does It Work?

Cupping uses vacuum suction to pull the skin, tissues and muscle below the cup up, improving circulation, relieving pain and pulling toxins out of the body. Traditional cupping involved heating the cup by burning something in it, such as herbs, paper or cotton soaked in alcohol, which heats the cup. Once the material began to smolder the cupping practitioner would then flip the cup and strategically place it on the patient’s body.

Once the air inside the heated cup began to cool it would create a vacuum within the cup, which has the effect of pulling the skin and underlying tissues and muscle slightly up into the cup. This causes the blood vessels in the treated area to expand and some of the capillaries to burst, which reddens the skin.

Most modern cupping practitioners don’t use actual fire to heat the cups anymore, rather they use special machines to create a vacuum in the cup after it has been properly positioned on the patient’s skin.

These cups are generally left in place for approximately three minutes per session. Cup placement is decided by the therapist and the client’s ailments. Anywhere from three to sixteen cups may be used during the treatment.

What Is Cupping Used to Treat?

Cupping advocates will cite a number of disorders and ailments for which cupping may be beneficial. Some of these issues include:

  • Relieves inflammation
  • Breaks up and releases congestion
  • Stretches muscles and connective tissue for mobility
  • Pulls blood supply to the skin
  • Helps reduce cellulite
  • Helps with muscle and joint pain, stiffness and arthritis

Alec Gilchrist was born and raised in New Orleans. He joined the Earthsavers team this year bringing with him a vast knowledge of Thai massage techniques. After attending the Carolina Center for Massage and Natural Health, he studied at Thai Institute in Arlington, VA to perfect his craft. Alec is thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his passion to our community. He looks forward to helping people welcome Thai massage and its benefits into their lives.

ALL ABOUT THAI
Traditional Thai massage is done on a padded mat on the floor. No oil is applied, and you are fully dressed. During the massage the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. The body is aligned, energy blockages are cleared and tensions are relieved. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental wellbeing. Sessions include breath work and breath meditation techniques to help the client relax more fully into the work.

Swe-Thai, which Alec also specializes in, uses the gentle rocking, light stretching and core abdominal work of Thai, mixed with familiar techniques of Swedish massage. The session is a gentle and relaxing, yet deeply effective. Swe-Thai is a great bridge between those wanting the Thai approach with the familiar setting of the massage table and Swedish strokes.

AFTERCARE

In the past 25 years, we’ve come across an enormous amount of information for maintaining your health and beauty. We’ve seen every trick and trend in the book. For our 25th anniversary, we wanted to share the most useful and life-changing tips:

1) Get essential fuel for your body with flaxseed or fish oil – Nothing will affect the way you look and feel more. Omega-3s and 6s boost energy, hydrate from the inside, lubricate bones and joints, and help every organ in your body work more efficiently.

2) Create a positive environment.Your environment has a huge impact on your energy. Make sure to choose environments that feed you instead of deplete you.

3) Slow down the aging process with Vitamin A – Topical Vitamin A (or Retinol) is essential to firm skin. It speeds up cell renewal, leaving your skin brighter. If you use one thing for anti-aging, make it Vitamin A.

4) Dry brush your skin for exfoliation and detoxification – Skin is your largest detoxification organ. Dry brushing increases circulation, improves skin tone, and reduces cellulite.
